Pastor Matthew Borrasso

Pastor Matt was born and raised in the Chicago area. He was brought to the font in November of 1985, less than two months after he was born, and it was there that the Spirit worked through water and the word to create and sustain faith in Christ. Most of his childhood education was at the Lutheran school attached to his childhood parish, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard, IL. There wasn't much that was stable during his life except his church and youth group. It was because of those experiences that he considered going into professional church work so that he could give to someone else what was given to him growing up. That perspective led him to Concordia University--Chicago after high school where he earned his B.A. in Theology with a minor in Biblical Languages, graduating in 2008. It was during his time at Concordia University that he met and fell in love with his wife Holly. From there he entered Concordia Seminary but decided to step away after completing his first two years. After leaving he married Holly and, while she worked as a teacher, he worked at Apple in one of their retail stores. It was during his time there that he decided to begin his studies at Northern Seminary in Lombard, IL. There he earned his M.A. in Christian Ministries in 2012. More important than the degree, it was in studying among Christians of varying confessions that he was able to embrace the Lutheran faith of his childhood. From there he returned to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and upon receiving his M.Div. in 2014. In 2018 Pastor Matt earned an S.T.M. at United Lutheran Seminary (formerly the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg). In Winter 2023 Pastor Matt completed his PhD work at the University of Birmingham in the UK. While it is true that education is of the utmost importance to Pastor Matt, it pales in comparison to the importance of his wife Holly and their four children. He feels blessed to be able to share his life with them as well as the people of Trinity. For him, it is an honor and privilege to be their pastor.
